We’ll set you up with a 32 spoke Velocity rim, built up on the new Powertap G3 hub, and you can either use your own ANT+ head unit (such as the many Garmin ANT+ units out there) or the Cycleops Joule head unit that we provide. You get to ride the wheel for a week to see if power training is for you. We’ll even give you a few field tests for you to do so that you can really see what you are made of. After your rental period is over, a Crank Cycling Coach will take a look at your power data and help you figure out the next step. And here is the best part…. Your Power Tap rental fees go towards the purchase of any Cycleops Powertap wheel purchased from Crank Cycling. So you get to try out the power training, without dropping the bucks on a wheel.
So how much does it cost? Powertap wheel rental is $100 per week, or $150 for 2 weeks. You just come pick it up at the Greatest Bike shop in the Universe in the South Park neighborhood of San Diego, and put it on your bike. No wires, no cables, no mess.
So how much does a Powertap wheel cost? Alloy wheels start at $999 dollars for a “training wheel”, with an alloy hub, and prices go up to $3199 for the new G3 hub built up on a 4mm5 or 65mm carbon wheelset. Q: Do you have wheels to fit my bike?
A: We have rental wheels in both Shimano/Sram 10 speed, and Campy 11 speed, and the rental wheel comes with a cassette and a tire/tube. If you need a different cassette you can either put one on yourself, or pay the mechanic at Pista Palace a few dollars to put one on for you.
Q: Can I rent the wheel for longer than 2 weeks?
A: 2 weeks is the maximum rental period. Didn’t your mother teach you to share?
Q: How long after my rental period can I apply my rental towards a purchase?
A: You have up to 6 weeks after your rental period to purchase a wheel and apply the rental fees to the purchase
Q: What happens if I lose or damage the rental wheel?
A: We hope you stay upright and that nobody steals your stuff. However you are responsible for the rental wheel and the accessories. In case of damage or loss, you will be charged to repair or replace the equipment, up to the full retail amount.
